‘Silent elegance’ in the Hermès Spring Summer 2024 collection.(QP)

Hermès focuses on a neutral color palette, thin and light fabrics, and integrates a new standard of physical beauty through ultra-short shorts.

The Hermès Spring Summer 2024 collection has just been released in France, faithful to the quiet luxury style but clearly expressing the pragmatic vision of the artistic director Véronique Nichanian. She brings a series of designs specifically for the hot season – contrary to the seasonal thinking of many fashion houses: presenting models close to the adjacent autumn and winter season. Véronique Nichanian hopes to stir the viewer’s imagination and make a difference in men’s fashion.

The Spring-Summer quality in Véronique Nichanian’s design is bold in body aesthetics, especially the double belts that create visual accents on neutral outfits.
The fashion house likens the thin, light fabric throughout the collection as a second fragile skin, allowing the wearer’s body to feel the gentle heat of summer. The double belt detail appears dense, making the most of Hermès classic material and design thinking.

Véronique Nichanian transforms the suit, removing the shoulder padding for a soft feel, while cleverly neutralizing the overall look with a pair of belt details and elegantly styled sneakers. Thin cotton material with applied lattice for the shirt. According to creative director Hermès, the sheer fabric coat lining brings a pleasant surprise to the runway.

For Nichanian, men’s shorts are an opportunity to make a gender revolution in fashion, at a time when gender identity standards are more flexible than ever. A gentleman doesn’t have to wrap himself up in rough, clumsy clothes. Instead, they can enjoy a more or less mischievous childish outfit, she explains.
Meanwhile, a large selection of bold shorts recalls 1980s men’s fashion, using soft cotton, linen and lambskin fabrics.
Inspired by shorts for boys, neutralizing traditional masculinity in Hermès fashion. “The series of pants are indeed very short. They give the impression of hyperactive boys with mischievous legs,” she said.

The neutral color palette Spring Summer 2023 preserves the quiet elegance typical of Hermès. The maker does not propagate luxury, instead quietly covering each needle and thread.
