Riding on a cargo tricycle, Edgardo Zúñiga journeys across Mexico to save abandoned dogs and promote advocacy against animal cruelty.
On July 17, 2013, his adventure commenced. Since then, he has traveled halfway across the nation, scouring the roads and streets for homeless dogs without owners. His journey has led him to Chiapas, a Mexican state situated on the southeastern boundary with Guatemala. Accompanying him on this expedition are his loyal 14 furry friends who have become his constant companions.
Edgardo, a man from Nayarit in western Mexico, travels day and night on a mission to improve the lives of abused and neglected animals. He wears clothes that are given to him by the same people he encounters on his journey. For Edgardo, who is 48 years old, this journey is not only a sacrifice but also a message to society.
According to Efe, the man shares that he is accompanied by dogs from different parts of Mexico that are often left unadopted and are seen wandering around the streets. These furry friends have now become a part of his “dog rescue squad,” where they help educate people about kindness and trust. Throughout his journey, he has successfully rescued more than 400 dogs across various states in Mexico, including Nayarit, Sinaloa, Sonora, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Campeche, Tabasco, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo.
The man, known as the “dog guy”, loads up his tricycle with food, drinks, shoes, and clothes to brave any type of weather, rain or shine. His eye-catching ride also carries various supplies to assist his furry companions. Currently, he is traveling through the Soconusco region of Chiapas, making stops in the municipalities of Huixtla and Tapachula to rescue and care for more dogs, providing them with a better quality of life.
Afterwards, your adventure will lead you to Puerto Madero, a town located on the coast of Chiapas. You’ll make a pit stop there for a few days to rest and let your furry friends catch up on some much-needed sleep. Edgardo sees his journey as an opportunity to raise awareness about the incredible abilities of these loyal dogs. He simply asks that people acknowledge the valuable contributions they can make to our lives.
During his trip, his goal is to rescue dogs and act as a mediator to secure the freedom of his fellow rescuers. According to him, dogs are loving and protective creatures that deserve proper care and attention. He also mentioned that reaching the southern part of the nation, where he received a warm welcome, proved to be a challenging task.
Traversing the Chiapas coast and making its way through various provinces in the southern regions of Oaxaca and Guerrero, is a unique project aimed at aiding dogs throughout Mexico. The man behind this noble initiative shared that his mission is to travel across the country, assisting dogs in need of help. It is worth mentioning that animal cruelty is prohibited in approximately 15 Mexican states, such as Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, and the state of Mexico. To avoid such situations, the individual responsible for the project believes in instilling a culture of respect and awareness towards animals among the general population.
